The Hawaii Gay Flag Football League (HIGFFL) is the Hawaii chapter of the National Gay Flag Football League (NGFFL). Each spring, the HIGFFL organizes and coordinates a competitive season of 7-on-7 flag football. All skill levels are encouraged to participate. We are committed to providing a comfortable and enjoyable setting for those who want to play football and promote camaraderie within our community.

There are many ways to get involved. Play, volunteer, sponsor or become a member of our sideline squad, Team Mimosa.

The Honolulu Riptide is a tournament travel team composed of players from the HIGFFL. The Riptide competes in The Gay Bowl, an annual national tournament held in September or October.

Try outs for the Riptide occur in July following the League regular season. Players commit to regular weekly practices through the summer.  We aim to field our best players.

Gay Bowl XVIII was in Denver, Colorado, September 13-16, 2018.
Gay Bowl XIX will be in New York City, October 10-13, 2019.

The Aloha Classic is an annual pick-up flag football tournament that occurs in February during President’s Day weekend.

Individual players are placed on teams and compete through the weekend.

In addition to flag football, tournament players and non-players are encouraged to participate in events that include an opening pool party and luau, optional sunset booze cruise, dance parties and excursion to a private island on Oahu’s windward side.

On September 16, 2018, we were thrilled that Honolulu was selected as the site of the 2020 Gay Bowl.

We know that a trip to Hawaii for many will be a trip of a lifetime. We’re going to show you that it’s going to be affordable.

We are already working with airlines to secure airfare discount commitments.

We have a plan for a tournament that is centralized with games, beaches, gay bars and most parties within a 1-mile radius of the host hotel.

Soon we’ll have a dedicated page to share our plans and will seek your input and feedback. Stay tuned…
